7th Grade Teen Vaccination Requirement

For the 2012-2013 school year, and all future school years, all students entering, advancing or transferring into 7th grade will need proof of an adolescent whooping cough booster immunization (called “Tdap”) for school in the fall.

Pertussis Booster Now Required for 7th Graders: Events

The State of California has passed the California School Immunization Law requiring all students entering 7th through 12th grades to show proof of Tdap immunization against pertussis (whooping cough), before starting the 2011-2012 school year. Students will not be able to start school without proof of the dose since age 7 years.

El Estado de California pasó la ley (AB354) requiriendo que para el año escolar 2011-12, una nueva ley estatal en que todos los estudiantes que ingresan a los grados del 7˚ al 12˚reciban la vacuna de refuerzo contra la tos ferina llamada Tdap antes de comenzar la escuela. Los estudiantes que no reciben esta vacuna antes del inicio del año escolar no podrán comenzar la escuela.

Regular Childhood Immunizations

Children should receive most of their childhood immunizations before their second birthday. Additional immunizations will be needed for children to enter kindergarten and for adolescents. For more information, please see the list of the CDC's Vaccine-Preventable Childhood Diseases and the Childhood & Adolescent Immunization Schedule, both published by the Centers for Disease Control.

If you have children or grandchildren, contact your primary care physician or visit the California Immunization Coalition website to verify that their immunizations are up-to-date.
