How often should my child start receiving Fluoride Varnish? +
After the first Fluoride Varnish application, subsequent applications can be done every 3-4 months.- For children receiving CHDP exams, Fluoride Varnish can be scheduled during their CHDP well child exams, follow up visits, sick visits, or stand alone appointments. -
My child uses fluoridated toothpaste, does he still need Fluoride Varnish? +
Fluoride Varnish helps, even if using fluoride drops, tablets, rinses, toothpaste, or drinking fluoridated water. -
What do I need to know after my child receives Fluoride Varnish? +
1.The teeth may be slightly discolored (yellow/brown) from the varnish, but brushing the next morning will return the teeth to their normal color.2.Don't brush or floss child's teeth for the rest of the day; resume brushing and flossing the next morning.3.Avoid giving foods that are hard, crunchy, or chewy the rest of the day.4. Do not give food or beverages for an hour after application. Water is OK to drink. 5. If the child is taking fluoride supplements, do not take supplements until 3 days after receiving Fluoride Varnish.
