Ventura County currently has 2 approved Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Centers. The EMD dispatchers utilize the Ventura County EMD Protocols developed by the EMS Agency and approved by the EMS Medical Director.

The dispatchers are highly trained professionals who follow carefully scripted protocols in the form of a flow chart. Medical Instructions are given to the caller to assist the ill or injured victim while they are waiting for the emergency personnel to arrive. At the beginning of the call, the dispatcher will ask a few questions to determine the severity of the incident. This allows the dispatcher to send the most appropriate level of resources to the incident.
