As authorized by Health and Safety Code all new applicants and applicants whose certification or accreditation have lapsed, are required to submit fingerprints for criminal background check.

The California Department of Justice (DOJ) has recently implemented the Applicant Live Scan process for the submission of fingerprints. This new automated system for the electronic submission of fingerprints and subsequent automated background check and response replaces the manual submission of fingerprint cards.
