Goalhandwashing

Our primary goal is to monitor and conduct surveillance to detect, control and prevent the spread of communicble diseases in Ventura County. We receive reports from health care providers for more than 85 legally reportable diseases. We investigate those reports, take appropriate action and summarize the data and report them to the State and the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Our office also investigates disease outbreaks, monitors emerging infectious diseases and analyzes data on disease trends in the county.

Services

The CD Office provides the following services:

  • Perform a detailed case history on confirmed/suspected communicable disease cases.
  • Provide extensive contact investigation and recommendation of prophylaxis treatment when necessary.
  • Provide expert guidance to county health care providers regarding communicable disease diagnosis and disease mitigation.
  • Work with other County agencies such as Environmental Health for foodborne illness and Animal Regulation and rabies and other animal and human-related diseases.
  • Education and consultation (upon request) to the public and medical communities regarding disease prevention and treatment.

For a list of reportable diseases and reporting time mandates, you can download Communicable Disease Office's Confidential Morbidity Report Form. You may also use this form to report a suspect communicable disease case and disease outbreak. To report TB you can download the TB Control Office's TB Suspect/Case Report Form for TB reporting.
