Affiliated with the UCLA School of Medicine,
VCMC is one of the original 20 programs
approved in Family Practice 40 years ago and has
been educating physicians since 1928. Emphasis
is on educating family physicians to have the skills
to work anywhere, especially with the medically

VCMC Highlights

California Children’s Services (CCS)
California Children's Services (CCS) is a state program for children with certain diseases or health problems. Through this program, children up to 21 years old can get the health care and services they need. CCS will connect you with doctors and trained health care people who know how to care for your child with special health care needs.

Baby Friendly Designation
Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) and Santa Paula Hospital (SPH) have both received the prestigious Baby-Friendly Hospital (BFH) designation, and are the only hospitals in the County to receive this remarkable recognition, given by the World Health Organization. VCMC received the BFH designation in 2003 becoming the 36 hospital in the country to receive this designation, and performed an extensive review of breastfeeding services within the hospital to be re-designated in 2009. SPH received the BFH designated on August 18, 2010. In the US, only 96 hospitals have received the BFH designation and Ventura County residents now have two BFH in their community.

Pediatric Oncology
The Pediatric specialists at VCMC were able to bring Oncology and Hematology services to the children of Ventura County in 2008. The support and funding made available byu the National Charity League Juniors of Ventura County has been a critical element in the development and ongoing success of the VCMC Pediatric Oncology program. Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Ventura County Medical Center’ s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is the oldest NICU in Ventura County; recently celebrating its 80th anniversary. The NICU is distinct from a special care nursery (SCN) in providing a high level of intensive care to premature infants.
NICUs were developed in the 1950s to provide better temperature support, isolation from infection risk, specialized feeding, and greater access to specialized equipment and resources.

West County Level II Trauma Center
Ventura County Medical Center became the west county level II Trauma Center in July 2010. As your county hospital, we continue to invest in quality staff, the latest equipment, provide sustained and innovative training programs, increase our role in public education and prevention, and continue to develop the hospital infrastructure to remain on the cutting edge of trauma and critical care services for the benefit of all Ventura County residents.
