County of Ventura Mental Health Board
The Ventura County Mental Heath Board is a state mandated Board. The Welfare and Institutions Code state law requires each county have a Mental Health Board (MHB) or Commission. One member of the Board of Supervisors is a member of the MHB. Each Board of Supervisor appoints four members to the MHB from his/her district for a term of three years and the term can be extended. The MHB consists of 22 members including the Consumer-at-Large position.

MIssion of the Mental Health Board:
- Serve as a Liaison between: the Community, the Behavioral Health Department and the Board of Supervisors.
- Evaluate Needs
- Review Programs
- Monitor Progress
- Make Recommendations Concerning Mental Health Issues
- Educate and Advocate for Access to and Delivery of Effective Mental Health Services
Anyone interested in becoming a member is welcome to join one of the MHB committees first to obtain some experience or may want to visit several of the MHB meetings before filing an application. To be appointed to the MHB there must be an opening.
