Youth Mental Health Court (Solutions)
In collaboration with the Probation Department, the Solutions Program provides intensive community based services for youth between 13 and 17 years of age who are assessed with a severe emotional disturbance (SED) and are involved with the Juvenile Justice System, specifically having been placed on formal probation. The program aim is to treat the mental health and substance abuse co-occurring issues of SED youth to prevent deeper involvement in the juvenile justice system. This program is provided by VCBH and contracted to Interface Children and Family Services.
During the past year, 43 youth were served by the Solutions Program countywide. 32% have completed treatment goals, and 40% are still receiving services. The program has been successful in improving client community functioning, as evidenced by six graduating from high school and three receiving their GED. In addition, 14 youth have obtained paid employment this past year. Only one hospitalization has occurred during the past year.
Services and Supports:
The program provides counseling, education and support, focusing on assisting youth and their families in identifying their strengths, working together to meet needs, and designing a personal plan of care, which includes linkage and engagement to identified services and supports.
For youth with co-occurring disorders, the Solutions Program utilizes a co-occurring approach which integrates an Alcohol Drug Treatment Specialist (ADTS) in the mental health clinical team using the evidence-based Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (ACRA) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. The program also utilizes the Family Development Matrix approach to intensive case management.
